Ambition made him king. Guilt made him mad.

My latest set of Key Quotation (KQ) cards are built for a familiar frustration: students remember quotations… and then freeze when they try to use them.

Each KQ card links a key line from Macbeth to a visual prompt and a model analytical paragraph. The image supports recall. The model answer shows what to do with the line once it’s remembered, going further than the classroom to explore ‘poetic metre’ - and the dreaded, but actually simple, and unbelievably valuable ‘iambic pentameter’.

This taster set contains five cards from the forthcoming full Macbeth pack. They can be used for quick retrieval practice, focused discussion, or as a starting point for essay planning.

They are not designed to supply ready-made interpretations. Instead, for every exam board, they model how strong analysis works: attention to language, sensitivity to structure and context, and the shaping of an idea rather than the naming of a theme.

In other words, they help students move from “I know the quote” to “I can use it”. And then to “Actually, I know what to do with ANY quote”.
